A BLAST FROM THE PAST
In May 2004, baseball season had arrived, and once again, Steve was coaching Brent's team. This year was different because this was Brent's first time to play "real" baseball. I say "real baseball" because in the Dixie Youth League the kids pitched and the kids played with a hard core baseball. This was also the year Brent was introduced as a PITCHER and his alternate position was SECOND BASE. As extra practice and for fun, Brent was part of our school's baseball camp while playing "PARK BALL". He had only been to camp 1 day & that night he got hurt. It was getting dark and the driveway spotlight had come on while Brent was doing some batting practice. He was hitting a baseball that was attached to a piece of plastic. The plastic was held in place by the "bungee cord" and the cord was velcroed to the basketball goal. Everything was fine until his bat hit the hard plastic. Immediately, the bat richocheted off the plastic and got him in the eye. I SAW THE WHOLE THING & I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO LOSE HIS EYE. He continued to go to camp the next day with one eye swollen shut & wearing a bandage. All the boys & the coaches thought he looked cool.
